This year British Council in Taiwan launches the second-year International Museum Academy (IMA) with Ministry of Culture and Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. This year, the theme of the forum is “Audience Development: Re-imagine Museum Engagement in Citizens’ Life,” which attempts to explore how the art museum can engage with the audience (citizens) in diverse and creative ways. The programme is aimed to improve the integral public service thinking and audience development practice of Taiwan’s art museums and art institutes, as well as to promote the collaboration and exchange between Taiwan and the UK.
British Council is pleased to invite three speakers from the UK. Wendy Gallagher is the Head of Learning and Engagement at Manchester Museum, and also is the Strategic Lead for Arts and Health for the Manchester Partnership. During her speech, she will focus on routes to influencing and changing policy, the creation of dynamic research partnerships, the convening power of museums for debate and the essential importance of continuing advocacy of the benefits of culture to the health and wellbeing of the society. Artist Lucy Burscough has worked with The Whitworth and The Manchester Museum to help deliver their arts for health programme for more than a decade, during her session, she will share examples of her work and how the arts for health practitioner work as a valuable collaborative partner with museums. Ed Watts is the Head of Learning and Engagement at the Whitworth, the University of Manchester. He will use projects, case studies and methodologies from the Whitworth to explore the role of museums and arts organisations working collaboratively in the area of arts, health and social change.
