What is the IELTS Test Report Form, and when will I receive it?

The IELTS Test Report Form (or TRF) is the official confirmation of your test result that can be shared as proof of your English language proficiency. This can either be a paper copy or an electronic version (eTRF).

[Electronic Test Report Forms]

  • If you have taken IELTS on computer, you will receive your results electronically only. You can download the electronic version (eTRF) from the Test Taker portal 1-8 days after your test.
  • You can print your electronic Test Report Form (eTRF) to send it to the organisations you are applying to, or you can send it via email. Alternatively, you can send your results direct to the organization through the Test Taker portal. If you lose your Test Report Form at any stage, or have questions about your results, please contact us.

When will I get my IELTS test results?

Depending on which IELTS test you have taken, you will get your results as shown below:

Types of IELTS Test Time
IELTS on Computer (non-UKVI) and IELTS for UK Visas and Immigration on Computer (UKVI) 1-8 days
IELTS Life Skills Up to 9 days days

If you have taken the non-UKVI IELTS test, you will be able to preview your results online  after 1 to 8 days from the test date.

IELTS Test Report Form (TRF)

  • An IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) is the official proof of your test results and English language proficiency. To receive a TRF, test takers must complete all Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking components, actively attempt the test, and complete the on-site photo capture process.
  • If you have any questions about your test results or TRF at any stage, please contact us.

Electronic Test Report Form (eTRF)

In Taiwan, IELTS and IELTS for UKVI are delivered via computer only, and only electronic Test Report Forms (eTRFs) are issued.

Your results will typically be available 1 to 3 days after your test date. Between 1 and 8 days post-test, you can log in to the British Council IELTS Registration Test Taker Portal to view, download, and print your eTRF as official proof of your score.

Once you receive your eTRF, you can send your results to recognizing organisations or institutions via:

  • Email: Send your downloaded eTRF directly to the institution.
  • Test Taker Portal: Send your electronic results directly to your chosen institution through the British Council IELTS Registration Test Taker Portal.
  • Printed eTRF by Mail/Courier: Download, print, and mail your eTRF to the institution. (Please verify first if the institution accepts self-printed eTRFs. If they require an official hard copy issued directly by the test centre, you must apply for an Additional Test Report Form (aTRF); see details below.)

IELTS Life Skills

IELTS Life Skills is currently provided in paper format only. Results are usually issued within 9 days after the test and sent via registered mail by the test centre. Self-pickup is not available.

Only one original TRF is issued per test taker. Please keep it safe, as lost or damaged TRFs cannot be reissued.

Key Reminders regarding TRFs

  • TRFs are issued by British Council Exams. Unless delayed by quality checks or external factors, results are accessible on the IELTS Registration Test Taker Portal within 1 to 8 days post-test.
  • The name on your TRF will match the passport provided at registration. To correct any personal information, submit a request to British Council Exams with your passport as proof.
  • Name changes made after receiving your TRF cannot be updated on the original document. Even in exceptional cases where a replacement is granted, the original name must remain.
  • If a re-check is deemed necessary by IELTS test partners, results may not be released on day 8. In rare cases, test takers may be required to retake one or all components.
  • If irregularities are detected after results are released, scores may be cancelled, and test takers may be required to retake one or all components.
  • The test centre may share results with recognizing organisations to assist in verification or malpractice investigations. Additional TRFs requested will be dispatched directly to designated institutions.
  • If a test taker or agent submits altered TRFs to any institution, original scores may be cancelled.
  • Test takers are not permitted to review written answer scripts or speaking recordings. All test materials are retained by IELTS test partners for evaluation, quality assurance, and research purposes.

Additional Test Report Forms (aTRF)

Many universities and organisations subscribe to the IELTS electronic result download service, allowing results to be shared directly via the Test Taker Portal or email. Others accept self-printed eTRFs sent by mail or courier.

If your chosen institution strictly requires an official paper TRF sent directly by the test centre, we can issue up to 5 additional hard copies (aTRF) to institutions such as universities, employers, or immigration authorities. Please confirm the institution's preferred format (eTRF or aTRF) before applying.

Important: aTRFs are sent directly to designated institutions and will not be issued to test takers, relatives, friends, or educational agents.

To request an aTRF, submit your application, delivery address, and payment via the global IELTS registration system within 2 years of your test date.

An administrative fee of NTD 100 applies per additional hard copy, plus postal/courier fees ranging from NTD 200 to 1,000 for international dispatch.

How to Apply for an aTRF

  • Applications must be submitted online via the British Council IELTS Registration Test Taker Portal.
  • Electronic aTRF service: Free of charge.
  • Paper aTRF service: Associated fees include administrative charges and postage/courier costs.
  • To request an electronic aTRF, please apply exclusively via the British Council IELTS Registration Test Taker Portal.
  • To request a paper aTRF, please also submit an initial application via the British Council IELTS Registration Test Taker Portal. The Test Centre will then follow up via email with instructions on completing additional online forms and payment to confirm your request.
  • Paper aTRFs will be dispatched via your selected delivery method within three working days (excluding submission day, weekends, and public holidays) upon receipt of your application form and payment. To prevent delivery delays due to missing information, please ensure all details provided in the online request are complete and accurate. Per DHL regulations, PO Box addresses are not accepted; please take note if using DHL express delivery.
  • Except for specific immigration authorities (e.g., CIC or UKVI, provided official proof of application is submitted), aTRFs are dispatched directly to institutions and cannot be delivered to test takers or third-party representatives.
  • IELTS scores are valid for 2 years from the test date. Expired result files are automatically deleted by the system; please apply at least 7 working days before your score expires. Processing is subject to centre approval and address verification.
  • Once completed, aTRF applications cannot be modified or cancelled. Please double-check all details before making payment.

Note: The aTRF service applies to IELTS and IELTS for UKVI only. Additional copies are not available for IELTS Life Skills.

How can I get additional copies of my Test Report Form sent to institutions?

  • Most institutions you’re applying to will need original copies of your IELTS Test Report Form, meaning photocopies will not be accepted. However, if you have taken IELTS Online, you can print out your eTRF or send it via email.
  • We can send up to five additional copies of your Test Report Form directly to the institutions you are applying to (e.g. universities, companies, immigration offices, etc). If you would like us to do this, please include the relevant addresses on the Test Taker Portal within two years of taking the test.
  • While paper versions remain the norm, some universities and institutions have now subscribed to the electronic download of IELTS scores. Please check with your local test centre before sending a hard copy of your results or asking us to do so.
  • If you want us to send another copy of your TRF to a recognising organisation in addition to the five copies we provide, you will need to pay an administration fee of NTD 100 per copy to send it via airmail or NTD 200-1,000 per copy to send to international destinations via courier.
  • If your test centre has been closed, you can order additional test report forms from ielts.org.
  • You will need to provide the institution’s address and fill in the “Application for Additional Test Report Form”. Attach a photocopy of your IELTS test result and passport to the application form and courier this to us at our office in Taipei. We will then send the TRF directly to the institution.
  • Please note that an additional Test Report Form takes around 3 days to be processed.
  • Request additional copies

What does my IELTS band and score mean?

  • You will be awarded an IELTS band score from 0-9 for each test section, which reflects your proficiency in English.
  • Your TRF shows a score for each of the four skills (IELTS Listening score, IELTS Reading score, IELTS Writing score and IELTS Speaking score), as well as an overall band score. You can score whole band scores (for example 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half band scores (e.g. 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) in each section of the test.
  • Find out more about what your IELTS band and score means here.

How long are my IELTS results valid for?

  • Organisations will usually not accept your results if they are more than two years old, unless you provide evidence that you have actively maintained or tried to improve your English since taking the test. The IELTS Partners cannot confirm the validity of test results that are more than two years old.

How can I get my IELTS test re-marked?

If you did not receive the score you expected, you can apply for your test to be re-marked.

This is called an Enquiry on Results (EOR). You can choose which test sections you want to be re-marked and will need to request this through the test centre where you took your test. You need to apply for a re-marking no later than six weeks after the test date.

  • IELTS on Computer, and IELTS for UKVI on Computer: You can submit and pay for an Enquiry on Results online HERE.
  • IELTS for UKVI Life Skills: If you have taken an IELTS for UKVI Life Skills test and would like to apply for an Enquiry on Results, please contact us by e-mail at exams@britishcouncil.org.tw with your name, test date, e-mail address, the sections you request to re-mark and with the e-mail title of EOR application.

The fee for the above service is TWD 4,000 for all tests regardless of the number of sections you request.

The Enquiry on Results fee will be refunded if your score is increased for any section of the test.

The outcome of an Enquiry on Results can become available on the same day as your application and up to 21 days after your application. The time it takes depends on several factors, including the number of sections you have asked us to re-mark. If you have not received a response after 21 days, please contact your test centre.

It is not possible to have qualitative feedback on the test or see the test.

Can I re-take my IELTS test?

  • There are no restrictions on re-taking IELTS. You can book a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so.
  • Please note that your score is unlikely to increase unless you make a significant effort to improve your English before re-taking the test. Visit the preparation section to take a practice test and assess your level.
